At the beginning of the ‚Passage‘ June 2023 residencies we welcome the artists and introduce them to the team behind the ‚Passage‘ Artist-in-Residence Programme.

Heike Beck (Board of Trustees) co-founded the Kultur- und Kunstverein Kemberg e.V. (Kemberg Culture and Art Association) and has been chairwoman of the association since 2020. She studied History and German Language at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig. Since 1985 she has been working at the primary and secondary school Ernestine Reiske in Kemberg and since 1993 she has been deputy headmistress at this school. In 1994, she was elected to the town council of Kemberg and held various positions there until 2019 (chairwoman of the culture committee, deputy mayor, local mayor). Among other projects one main focus of the association is the establishment of the centre for cultural-historical activities ‘Altes Museum / Knabenschule’ in cooperation with the city of Kemberg and the Saxony-Anhalt State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments and Archaeology.

Andrea Jaeger (Artistic Director) is an artist-researcher, lecturer and educator in photography. Her practice explores sensousness, femininity and disruption in photographic production through fieldwork, deep listening and visual thinking. Jaeger is currently an AHRC funded PhD Doctoral candidate at Nottingham Trent University’s Fine Art Department and teaches on the BA Photography programme at De Montfort University (Leicester, UK). She is the co-director of the ‚Passage‘ Artist-in-Residence programme and chairwoman of Polygona e.V., an arts association based in Bad Düben (Saxony, Germany), that encourages transformative practices in peripheral environments to disclose, explore and enrich traditions.

Josephine Kaatz (Programme Director) has a Master of Media and Film from the University of Leipzig and a degree in Photo Editing Studies from Ostkreuzschule Berlin. She works as a freelance picture editor for various clients and magazines such as GEO, Monopol, art Magazin, Zeitmagazin, Walden, Vice. She offers conception, research and training for magazines, publishers and festivals in the field of applied and artistic photography as well as illustration with a focus on society, art and nature. Josephine also works as a photographer. She has been photographing lakes for several years and published the results in the book series ‚Take Me to the Lakes‘. Influenced by her experiences as a wildlife tracker, her photographic work explores traces of animals and nature in the man-made environment. Josephine is responsible for the programme direction of ‚Passage‘.

Jan Stradtmann (Artistic Director) is a photographic artist, based in the Dübener Heide, Saxony, Germany. He holds an MA in Photographic Studies from the University of Westminster, London. His work has featured in solo exhibitions in Lyon, Rome and Darmstadt and in a number of group shows including at the Noorderlicht International Photofestival, Groningen, NL; Institute of International Visual Arts, London and The Photographers Gallery, London. Together with Andrea Jaeger, he is the artistic director of the ‚Passage‘ Artist-in-Residence programme. Jan is the on-site contact for the artists in residence. He works with local institutions and different communities in the Dübener Heide to facilitate the residencies.

Grupppo (Visual Identity) is a unique team of two Italians (Lucia and Valerio) and one Brazilian (Carlos Vin). Based in Berlin and occasionally in the Italian countryside, they work with international partners. Their practice is founded around research and collaboration. Exchanging knowledge and ideas is what they are passionate about.
