Meet the 2021 jury

We are very pleased to introduce the jury members who will select the two artists for the residencies from the applications. Our first two residencies will take place in November 2021 in the Dübener Heide, Germany.

Heike Beck co-founded the Kultur- und Kunstverein Kemberg e.V. (Kemberg Culture and Art Association) in 1995 and has been chairwoman of the association since 2020. She studied History and German Language at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig. Since 1985 she has been working at the primary and secondary school Ernestine Reiske in Kemberg and since 1993 she has been deputy headmistress at this school. In 1994, she was elected to the town council of Kemberg and held various positions there until 2019 (chairwoman of the culture committee, deputy mayor, local mayor). Among other projects one main focus of the association is the establishment of the centre for cultural-historical activities Altes Museum/Knabenschule in cooperation with the city of Kemberg and the Saxony-Anhalt State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments and Archaeology.

Louise Fedotov-Clements, Artistic Director, QUAD & Director, FORMAT International Photography Festival. Louise has been the Artistic Director of QUAD a centre for contemporary art, innovation and film since 2002, and Director/Co-Founder of FORMAT International Photography Festival, since 2004. Active since 1998 directing commissions, publications, performances and international exhibitions/festivals including Dong Gang, South Korea; Photoquai Biennale Musée du quai Branly Paris; Les Rencontres Arles; Dali Photo, China; Poikkeustila Finland; Venice Biennale EM15; Photo Beijing, and LishuiPhoto China; Korea International Photo Festival. An international awards advisor, she has contributed to numerous publications as producer/writer/Editorial Team and a juror, portfolio reviewer, speaker in Europe, America, Africa & Asia.

Valerio Nicoletti is an art director and designer based between Berlin and Apulia (Italy), working for companies and artistic projects. He co-curated three editions of Bitume Photofest, an independent festival of photography, and was the art director at Polaroid in Berlin and Amsterdam. He designed several photo books and occasionally served as a facilitator in academic courses and workshops. Currently, he forms a creative duo with filmmaker and visual designer Carlos Vin Lopes.

Simon Roberts is a visual artist based in Brighton, UK. Widely recognised for his large-format, tableaux photographs of the British landscape, his practice also encompasses video, text and installation work, which together, interrogate notions of identity and belonging, and the complex relationship between history, place and culture.

Eugenie Shinkle is a photographer and writer living in London, UK. She is co-editor of the online photography platform c4journal.

Helena Weber is a photo historian living in Cologne. She studied History, Slavic and English Studies at the Universities of Cologne and Kraków, and worked as a research assistant in the Department of Theory and History of Photography at the University of Cologne for Prof. Herta Wolf, as well as a freelance photo editor at UnitedArchives. Since 2016, she was active at several cultural history museums where she co-curated and realised photo-historical exhibitions. Among them the show ‘Fred Stein. Dresden – Paris – New York’ presented at the Dresden City Museum in 2018. Currently, she is researching a historical photo collection for an eHeritage project funded by the BMBF.
